1970’S VINTAGE CIBA RITALIN MAN PLASTIC ADVERTISING FIGURE MERCK PHARMACEUTICAL. What you see in the photos is what you get. Stands about 7 tall. Decent shape, but the “Ritalin” wording has obviously been rubbed off. The weight in the base moves around if you shake it (no cracks in base or body, but definitely the weight is loose inside). Please look at the photos to determine condition for yourself.

So where do we start? Obviously we have an early pharmaceutical sign that was put in a drug store maybe a general store that had a pharmacy. When I got this piece it was not in the best shape. There was major cracking in the original acrylic, someone had put pieces of tape all over it probably to attach notes for the day. The fluorescent bulb inside had a good inch of dirt and debris covering it. The ballast for the fluorescent bulb was part of the plug that went into an outlet. This called for an overhaul. First thing, I went on the hunt to have the acrylic remade and replicated to its original counterpart. This was not easy and not cheap. We went with a polycarbonate which was stronger than the original. We had to hand cut the 45 degree bevel around the boarder of the pieces as well as hand paint it. The text was all re imaged on a computer and screen printed on the polycabonate. I will include the original acrylic, and two re created versions. The new version shown above has a couple of small scratches that were made during manufacturing. I have another that has no scratches. So in total you will get three of the signs and only one original base. I stripped all of the electrical out and rewired with a pastel yellow cloth chord. A new plug has been added. The original switch was located on the metal base. That could not be serviced so I found a brand new version that was almost an exact copy. I took the fluorescent bulb out and replaced it with an led light bar. Best move I could have made. No heat at all and no changing the bulbs. If you look at the pictures above you can see a silver cylinder hanging out the side of the metal base. This was the starter for the fluorescent bulb. I could have taken that out but there would of been a hole there with nothing to fill in. So, I was able to keep certain parts inside the housing together so I could still keep the look of how it was when it was in it’s original operation. There is no electricity that runs through it. The starter is just for how now. Finally, the yellow label on the base was peeling and in rough shape when i acquired the piece and I did not want to take it off. There are doctors names and numbers still on the label with the vintage telephone numbers. Just adds a lot of character. I did glue some of the label back down just to clean it up. Overall this is a great conversation piece and a lot of history. Feel free to ask any questions or get any dimensions if needed.
