Vintage Store Display

Every once in awhile you run into an antique that has somehow managed to not only survive, but survive in pretty amazing original condition. This is a vintage antique general store/Mercantile display cabinet. I have been fortunate enough to own upwards of 100 showcases, and a fairly educated guess would date this one between 1885 and 1900. Pat Date reads 1897. The makers of this cabinet were two brothers who moved to the United States in the 1880’s and built beautiful products like this up to around 1900. Knowing the approximate age of this cabinet, It is just absolutely unbelievable how it has remained in near perfect condition, right down to the original old wavy glass. Overall outside measurements of this cabinet is 26 1/2″ tall, 25 1/2″ wide, by 14 1/2 deep. The actual inside display area is 10 3/4″ deep, 22″ wide, by 24 tall. This cabinet is extremely clean and odor free…. & it is ready to display, in fact I have it inside my home right now using it to display some vintage toys. This comes from a smoke free, pet free home. It is made out of oak, with the exception of the very bottom and very top which I’m not sure of. I only know they are original. I have kept it very nice and very clean. Joints on this are all nice and tight. Doors are mortise and tenon construction. It still has it’s original brass makers tag on the front that is very nice. While this has faded a bit and hard to read, on the inside of the top piece, it has the makers tag “stamp” with the same information as the front brass makers tag. This cabinet still has the original knobs and hardware, including the spring loaded hinges. This is the perfect antique display case to keep your most special items in. Speaking of which, nothing you see pictured inside the case goes with it. One last thing I should mention. The top on this cabinet was removed at some point. That’s actually a positive thing. There were 4 nails holding it in place. Those nails are missing. Top is original and is a perfect fit to the case so nothing whatsoever is loose. Those missing nails do not affect anything whatsoever, in fact, if you display the cabinet with the back to the wall, it makes it extremely easy to load or unload your collectibles. Which is most likely why it was removed in the first place. Or, if you so chose, you can find old style nails, and simply put them back in. The holes are there, it would be quite easy. For cleaning, loading or unloading, I like it exactly as it is. Display Case only, no vending machines included.. Thank you for taking a look.
