This was a recent discovery at an estate sale. The house was a veritable time capsule of all kinds of groovy and mod toys and art objects, many unique things still in their original packaging and unused or little used. Some of these items I will be listing later. This listing is for an original poster designed by Fredun Shapur for the Creative Playthings toy shop. He created ten different designs that were intended to display the different types of play a child might engage in and where in their store those products could be found. I doubt this was ever hung or displayed. The colors are as bright and vibrant as they were in 1971. There is some minimal wear to the edges in some areas but this isn’t very noticeable and would be invisible when properly framed. This poster measures 25″ x 38″. This in an authentic original poster NOT a reproduction. I just wanted to stress this as three of these designs were reproduced in a smaller format a few years ago. These iconic Fredun Shapur posters are exceedingly scarce and rarely are offered. There are many examples of these posters in existence outside of Museum collections. Fredun Shapur is one of the more singular designers of the Postwar era. Outside of his connection with Creative Playthings, he is most known for his ” playsacks” costumes Trendon Toys, multi-view puzzles he did for Galt Toys, four-way wooden blocks. Besides creating stuff for kids, he wrote books and designed some striking album covers for the Topic label in England. He is often mentioned along side designers like Bruno Munari and Charles Eames. Creative Playthings has had a long and rich history with art and design going back to their beginnings with Frank Caplan and their collaborations with the Museum of Modern Art and Marcel Breuer. They also designed children’s furniture and worked with noted artists, designers and architects like Isamu Noguchi, Louis Khan, Henry Moore and Robert Winston. The item “Rare Orig.
