Up for sale is a super cool and extremely rare piece of automotive memorabilia. This is an early 1950’s Goodyear Store Counter Display Rayon Fiber Strength Tester. This was used in a Goodyear Tires Store to compare the strength of Goodyear’s Rayon Tire Fibers against the competitors fibers used in their tires. Goodyear Rayon Fibers were strung on one side of pendulum and competitors was strung on other side. You used the side handle to crank up the two chrome pendulums and then were released and swung down against the Rayon Fibers. Goodyears Rayon Fibers withstood the blow, whereas the competitors fiber broke. Made of varnished wood base and chrome metal structure. Rayon was introduced in the late 1940’s in the Tire manufacturing process. They found that Rayon was light and much more durable for the sidewalls of tires. Chrome has some pitting and surface oxidation in spots. Wood base has some minor edge seam cracks. (Shown in one of the photos). Wood and Goodyear logo on front have some wear. Base measures 11 in. X 1 3/4 in. Overall, just a super cool and very rare Goodyear Tires Collectible. Guaranteed not to see another one anytime soon. This comes from the collection of a long time Gas & Oil Collector.
