This phenomenal Belknap Hardware display set of “Big John” J. Primble pocketknives comes from the estate of the a Louisville, KY area salesman. Included in this 1940’s / 1950’s black Belknap Hdw. Velvet-lined leather roll case are 32 vintage Primble folding pocket knives. The estate they come from have indicated to us that these knives date from the 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. Each is stamped with the Primble and Belknap mark and identifying number on the tang. Knives listed in order shown in 4th photo. I t is amazing to think that this has survived almost 100 years. A collector notes, M ost have probably been destroyed over the years, but back in the 1920’s and 1930’s [these banners] weren’t produced in nearly the same numbers as ads on cardboard or poster paper, so the number of them was small to begin with. Much like newspapers, advertising materials have a definite and distinct shelf-life. Products come and go, and for those companies that do stick around for many years, marketing slogans and styles will change with the times, thus deeming periodic updates to advertising campaigns a necessity. As a result, vintage advertising materials were not made to last for very long: their survival i s a rarity. It is 4 sided and rotates around and is in very nice condition. There is a small tear that has been mended above the #39 slot up near the top on the orange area. Also the top has some places on 3 of the corners also pictured. There are no cracks in any of the compartments. Overall this is a very nice case to display and protect your gems in.
