RARE Vintage Esquire Magazine Esky Santa Claus Christmas Advertising Display. Attributed to Old King Cole, this outstandingly attractive wall hanging display was produced circa 1940’s, and made of paper mache/composition material. Condition is overall very good, with an even better appearance when viewing from a normal distance. Upon close inspection there are scattered minor scuffs, crazing, tiny dings, and surface cracks. None of these imperfections seriously detract from the overall gorgeous appearance and displayability of this magnificent item. Perfect for even the most advanced collector. These cereal boxes being offered are just the beginning of an incredible 8000 piece 20 year collection I recently had the privilege of purchasing. ALL I CAN SAY IS HE IS WONDERFUL! Spectacular and I will miss him. Rare Esquire Magazine Figure Vintage 1940’s ESKY Advertising Store Display. Absolutely superb rare esquire ESKY statue in the large 24 inch size. In exceptional condition but showing some losses to paint as seen in photos. He is missing his cane held in outstretched arm and easily duplicated or replaced. Esquire’s mascot first appeared on the cover of their second issue, January 1934. Based on a drawing by cartoonist E. Simms Campbell, Esky was featured on every cover — golfing, sailing, gadding about with women — until 1961, when his face began dotting the “i” in their logo. After appearing on more than five hundred covers, Esky now spends his days on the magazine’s spine. Simms Campbell who was the first African-American cartoonist to work for a major magazine. He designed this great advertising display for Esquire Magazine in the 1930’s. Rare, original, vintage 1940s “Esky” the “Esquire Man” 24 tall store display figure for department stores or specialty stores. This very rare item — in overall excellent condition –is made of rubber /resin material and hand painted. Esquire’s famous art director / designer Elmer Simms Campbell created the character in the 1930s and the character was subsequently featured on every early cover of Esquire magazine… And still remains the mascot of the magazine to this day. This Esky store display piece is in exceptional condition.. Given the item’s nearly 80-plus year age… The “Esky” display that have survived all these years are usually plagued with major flaws or (even more common) the cracking of the 5.5 square case–this one is in exceptionally great shape.. I could only find a minor scrape area under the brim of the hat. Since this area is painted black it is barely noticeable. Please see all photos for details. It is a great display piece for any room in the house. Or in antique stores. Don’t miss this opportunity to own one!
