Authentic antique Columbus Show Case Co. Slant-front general store display case, measuring approximately 6 feet long and constructed of beautifully figured oak with the distinctive grain commonly associated with quarter-sawn / tiger oak. The case retains its original brass Columbus maker’s plaque, marked. Columbus – Made Show Cases – Mfd. By The Columbus Show Case Co. A wonderful surviving example of an early American commercial store fixture, this large showcase features the classic slanted glass front, glass side panels, substantial oak framework, and an interior wooden display shelf. Pieces like this were originally used in general stores, mercantiles, pharmacies, jewelers, and other retail establishments to display merchandise while keeping it protected. The oak has developed a beautiful warm color and aged patina, with attractive figured grain visible throughout. Maker: The Columbus Show Case Co. Location: Columbus, Ohio. Approximate era: Early 20th century. Material: Figured oak / tiger oak. Length: Approximately 6 feet. Original Columbus maker’s plaque. Slant-front glass showcase design. Glass front and side panels. Interior wooden display shelf. Beautiful aged oak finish and patina. Authentic antique commercial/store fixture. Good antique condition with expected wear consistent with age and commercial use. The wood shows areas of surface wear, scratches, marks, finish variation and patina. The interior bottom surface needs to be cleaned. Please examine all photographs closely for the most accurate representation of condition. The case presents beautifully and retains the character you would expect from an authentic antique store fixture that has survived for well over a century. No attempt has been made to aggressively refinish or remove the aged character of the wood. This would make an outstanding display piece for an antique shop, vintage market booth, jewelry store, retail shop, restaurant, historic interior, museum-style collection, or home collection. Antique Country Store Countertop Wood Slant Glass Display Case Apothecary As Is

ANTIQUE COUNTRY STORE COUNTERTOP WOOD SLANT GLASS DISPLAY CASE. The display case is being offered for sale in as is but functional condition. Please review all photos as well as the video to get a great look at this piece. First, some approximate dimensions and measurements. From the bottom wood base shelf to the glass shelf in the middle of the showcase there’s about 10 of height for displaying your items. The dimensions of that wood base/bottom shelf are about 12 inches in width by about 6 5/8 inches in depth. The middle glass shelf measures 12 inches in width and the depth is about 6 1/8 inches. There is about 10 1/4 inches between this glass shelf and the top glass shelf. The top glass shelf measures 12 inches in width and is 5 1/8 inches in depth. There is about 7 inches of height to display your items on the top shelf. What’s missing or damaged. The back lock hardware is missing- please see picture 12. I wedged a piece of white cardboard in here to keep the door shut for years… Some support moldings are missing-for example- along the top exterior of the display case on its right side- looking at it -left side- at the top of the exterior glass. You can see this in most of the forward-facing photos including picture 1. Additionally- there must have been six small pieces of support molding between each of the shelves that went along the back corners of the case. Please see last photo where I point this area out on one of the sides but know the issue is on both sides… You can see there is some white glue residue or something like that in these areas- the white residue is more prominent on one side than the other. (I show you both sides in the video). There are also some moldings missing along the bottom wood shelf in a couple areas. The background/back wall of the display case appears to be paper or maybe paper “wallpaper” of some kind… The paper shows wear and age-there is a small hole in one area. I do not know if the two glass shelves are original or not. I never noticed any cracks or issues in the glass, but the wood shows scattered wear and age throughout- including scratches, discoloration, scuffs, splits, warped areas, etc…. With all this being said- this is a great display case and none of the imperfections ever bothered me!! Thank you for reading all this haha! Solid oak in very good antique condition. Four drawers with brass pulls knobs, all present and intact. Top raises and locks in up position with attached wooden rod for support. Depth of inside top slants from about 1″ in front to just over 2″ in back. Presumably this was for housing spools of thread. Could be used like a desk. It measures approximately 29 across at the top of lid, the widest point. The width along sides is about 21.5 at widest point which is the base. Its depth slopes from a little over 12″ in back to a little over 10″ in front. Overall condition is great for its age. Some things to note, not detrimental but worth pointing out, is some scarring to bottom edge in back, couple of knobs loose, but not wobbly. Natural wear to sides where top has been lifted many times over many years, this is smooth and nice and gives authenticity and character as to the age of the piece. Front corner tips of base look as if cut to fit the original counter. They’re finished like that so were most likely made like that to fit counter. I photographed each of these things I just noted. I’m guessing about 35-40 pounds. Spool Cotton logo decal and it is in terrific shape; no peeling or scarring. This side would have faced out toward the customers. This is a beautiful authentic antique example of a country store display cabinet with many modern day uses. It will be a true showpiece! A bit of history from online source. In 1806, Napoleon blockaded Great Britain, which meant that silk thread was not available to British weavers. The Clark family had a loom supply company and they were also big suppliers of silk thread. At the time of the blockade, Peter Clark developed a method of combining cotton threads so that they were strong and smooth enough to be used in place of silk, and he advertised this important advancement as Our New Thread. The cotton thread was brought onto the market in 1812. In 1817 the Clark company opened a mill, dedicated to the production of this type of thread and then, a few years later, the firm discovered a method of winding this thread onto small, wooden reels. This type of cotton thread was eventually to replace many of the linen and silk hand sewing threads already on the maket.
