I hate to let this go. I’ll start off by saying that, but it’s time for someone else to enjoy this crazy unique piece! I have never seen anything else quite like it nor do I think I ever will do this. I was told it was commissioned by Black& Decker in the late’60s to mid-70s for either a commercial or one of their stores to show the likeness, but in a gigantic version of the old vintage steam iron for ironic and clothes called the light and easy model. It is definitely not a cheap made item. It appears I believe that it is handmade from fiberglass is what it appears though I cannot be 100% for sure as there is just no information on this. If you look at the old light and easy Black& Decker it mimics almost down to a t of the exact features except there are no stickers on it. It has a reddish maroon button on the top. Also, the bottom plate that would actually make contact with clothes which would be metal on the real iron is painted gray and the rest of the iron is white. I’ve had this for quite some time and when I heard the story behind it years ago I definitely had to grab it once again. I have never been able to find anything like it not even close. So I’m sure this was definitely either a one-off or maybe only a couple made years ago and this one maybe like is the only one that survived or there just has never been another one that has come up for sale. I enjoy art especially mid-century and pop art and if you enjoy things like that then this is definitely a piece to be able to show off to your company. It measures approximately 20 in in length. As you can see from the pictures, you can see the scale of it compared to other objects to get an idea of how huge this is. It’s definitely a work of art once again. I believe this would have been hand ed and made out of foam or any cheap material. I have worked with fiberglass over the years and I believe that that is what it is made of but once again I cannot be 100% for sure. Definitely a great piece. I hate to part with it but other things are more demanding at the moment so hopefully it goes to a home that we’ll be able to enjoy and show it off. As much as I have over the years it will definitely be packed with care and it’ll be sad to see it go. It is used and is vintage so there are some scratches on it here and there in a little bit of chipping in the paint. I always thought about redoing the paint but I just didn’t want to touch it because it’s just awesome the way it is. It has been a staple of my collection over the years and hopefully it will be the same for you.
